Background. A recent study published in Science Advances, “PM2.5 polluters disproportionately and systemically affect people of color in the United States” demonstrated that minorities in the United States are exposed to more pollution. Specifically, PM2.5, a fine particulate air pollutant that is the cause of thousands of deaths each year. This study has the potential to be impactful for policy at many levels, however the data are trapped in the PDF and static figures.
The Dashboard. Below is a dashboard that attempts to let you explore the data in the study to see how your state or city is being impacted by air pollution. I’ll keep updating it with additional visuals over time.
